Content Repurposing with Modality.ink: The Sundog Education Success Story

In this article, we examine how Sundog Education transformed its content strategy using Modality.ink. Owner Frank Kane first tried our platform a few months ago and continues to see measurable results. Let's explore exactly what happened.

Hero of the story - Frank Kane

Frank Kane, CEO of Sundog Education, achieved what many dream of—he left his corporate position at Amazon to build an education empire from his home office in Florida. When you listen to his lectures, his expertise shines through immediately. You sense not just proficiency and knowledge, but genuine passion, humor, and at the deepest level—pure kindness.

Today, Frank has taught over one million learners on Udemy. He represents our ideal user: a true educator using their expertise to teach valuable skills. We saw an opportunity to help him maximize the impact and profitability of his efforts - that's how Modality.ink started.

North star: breaking free from Udemy rev share

In our initial interview, Frank revealed that most of his income came from Udemy's internal marketing, limiting him to just 37% of total revenue under their revenue sharing model. We immediately recognized the opportunity: investing in SEO and building his own student acquisition channels could dramatically increase his earnings.

This is Modality.ink's core promise—seamlessly transform lesson recordings into compelling blog posts that serve as valuable free samples for prospective students.

Game plan

We developed the following strategy:

  1. Content Schedule: We will transform three of Frank's lesson videos into blog posts, publishing one per week to build a content series with momentum
  2. Technical Requirements: Since the videos covered AI topics (inception haha!), ensuring code snippets were properly formatted and integrated was crucial - a feature Modality.ink handles natively
  3. Distribution Platform: Publish articles on Frank's existing WordPress blog with a proper plugin to track the marketing impact precisely
  4. Amplification Strategy: Cross-post each article on LinkedIn to drive additional traffic beyond organic search

Content Transformation in Action

To truly understand Modality.ink's capabilities, let's examine the end-to-end process.

Input: Advanced AI Tutorial Videos

Frank's source material consisted of sophisticated video lessons about Large Language Models (LLMs), covering advanced techniques like fine-tuning, RAG (Retrieval-Augmented Generation), and AI agents. The examples cleverly used a humorous use case: building a chatbot that behaves like Lieutenant Commander Data from Star Trek.

The Modality.ink Transformation Process

Video-to-blog transformation captures something special: genuine teaching expertise that generic LLM generated articles can't replicate.

In theory, the Modality.ink workflow sounds simple: extract audio from MP4, run transcription, and use an LLM to transform the transcript into a blog post. But as always, the devil is in the details.

Modality.ink Core Objectives are:

  1. Preserve Information Integrity: The resulting article must retain all lesson information without adding hallucinated content
  2. Maintain Authentic Voice: Keep Frank's original voice—his unique framing, examples, side notes, and conversational style that creates the "human" element we never want to lose
  3. Ensure Readability: staying close to transcript phrasing won't work because spoken language constructs sentences completely differently than written prose
  4. Guarantee Quality: Zero tolerance for spelling, grammar, or formatting errors
  5. Optimize for Marketing Success:
    • Research and incorporate SEO keywords naturally
    • Include smooth, non-pushy links to the full course that feel helpful rather than salesy

This is exactly what Modality.ink delivers. Want to see for yourself? Your first article transformation is free at modality.ink.

We loved Frank's feedback so much that we featured it on our homepage:

"Wow, that's really good now! It reads a lot like something you'd see on Toward Data Science or something. I will publish that."
— Frank Kane, Sundog Education

Judge for yourself, but the results speak volumes. These are truly unique, publication-ready articles—authentic content transformed from real teaching, not generated from scratch.

A Note on Images: Frank created the images for his posts independently using GenAI tools. His suggestion that image generation should become a Modality.ink feature? Absolutely agreed—it's now on our roadmap.

The Big Question: Did It Work?

Key Observations

  1. Real SEO Impact: The blog articles are ranking on Google and driving real traffic. Over 1,300 people searched for information and found it on Frank's blog—outstanding results!
  2. Varying Performance Patterns: Despite covering similar topics, each article performs differently in two interesting ways:
    • The most popular article generates 10x more traffic than the least popular
    • Each shows distinct traffic patterns over time:
      • RAG article: Shows consistent, steady growth month over month
      • Agents article: Reached peak popularity then gradually declined
      • GPT Fine-tuning: Experienced a "summer slump" with seasonal variation
  3. Vast majority of the traffic comes from google. A promising fact is that there are also some visitors coming from ChatGPT!

Working Hypotheses

  1. Supply and Demand: We're likely observing natural search demand—more people are searching for RAG-related content compared to more advanced topic of fine tuning of GPT. Possibly, there is also a summer vacation lower demand on e-learning content;
  2. The Long SEO Game: As SEO professionals say, "it's a marathon, not a sprint." The steady traffic growth over months confirms this content strategy is building momentum

The Bottom Line

Thanks to Modality.ink, Sundog Education is capturing valuable SEO traffic right now. Our tool transformed video MP4s into publication-quality articles in minutes—work that would take hours to do manually. Over seven months, this content attracted more than 1,300 knowledge seekers from Google search. Those are results worth celebrating!
